How it works

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern teeth-straightening treatment using clear, removable aligners instead of metal braces. The aligners are virtually invisible, making them popular for adults and professionals who want to straighten teeth discreetly.

Treatment works by wearing a series of custom aligners that gradually shift teeth into position. Each set is worn for one to two weeks before progressing to the next. Unlike traditional braces with tooth-coloured brackets or metal wires, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating and cleaning.

Treatment at our Broadway, Sydney clinic typically takes 6 to 18 months depending on complexity. During your consultation, we provide accurate timeframes based on your specific dental health needs.

What aligners can treat

Could Invisalign suit your smile?

Invisalign can treat several common alignment and bite concerns. At our Broadway clinic, we most often use it for:

02

Gaps Between Teeth

Excess spacing affects your confidence and dental health. Our teeth-straightening treatment effectively closes gaps while ensuring your smile remains balanced.

03

Overbite & Underbite Correction

When your upper and lower teeth don’t meet correctly, it can cause uneven wear and discomfort. Clear aligners help correct mild to moderate bite issues for a balanced smile.

04

Crossbite Correction

We fix cases where your upper and lower teeth don’t line up properly, helping to protect your teeth from uneven wear and jaw discomfort.

Compare your options

Invisalign or other clear aligners?

Invisalign is one brand of clear aligners. Understanding the brand, treatment plan and clinical supervision helps you compare your options.

OPTION 1

Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear aligner brand that uses SmartTrack material. Treatment is planned digitally and monitored by your treating clinician. Your plan sets out the proposed tooth movements, review appointments and retainers needed afterwards.

OPTION 2

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a category of removable orthodontic appliances that includes Invisalign and other brands. Suitability, cost and the movements they can achieve depend on your teeth, bite, treatment plan and clinical supervision. A dental assessment helps determine the appropriate option.

Your questions

Invisalign FAQs

Still unsure? Our team can talk it through with you.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?+

Most Invisalign treatment plans take between 6 and 18 months to complete. Simple cases may finish in as little as 6 months, while more complex bite corrections typically require 12 to 18 months. We provide an accurate timeline during your consultation.

Is Invisalign treatment painful?+

Invisalign is generally more comfortable than traditional braces. You may experience pressure or mild discomfort when starting a new set of aligners, but this usually subsides within a few days.

Can I eat and drink during Invisalign treatment?+

Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. After eating, brush your teeth before reinserting them.

How often do I need to wear my aligners?+

Wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing or flossing.

Can I see my new smile before I start?+

Yes. We plan your treatment on a 3D scan and show you the finished smile we are aiming for. We work on the design with you until it is the smile you want, and your aligners are only made once you approve it.

Can I pay for Invisalign over time?+

Yes. Payment plans are available for orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, so the cost can be spread over the course of treatment. You get a written plan with costs before anything starts.

Is Invisalign only cosmetic?+

No. Straight teeth are easier to clean, which helps keep your gums healthy. When teeth sit out of position, some take too much pressure and wear down faster, so balancing the bite also protects them. Some corrections take as little as six months.

Is Invisalign treatment suitable for adults?+

Yes. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and the discreet appearance of clear aligners makes Invisalign particularly popular with working professionals.

Can Invisalign treatment fix severe crowding?+

Invisalign can address mild to moderate crowding, spacing and bite issues. For severe cases, braces or other appliances may be more appropriate. Our dentists will advise honestly after assessment.

What happens if I lose an aligner during treatment?+

Contact our Broadway clinic immediately. We may advise you to move to the next set or wear your previous set while a replacement is ordered.

Do I need retainers after Invisalign treatment?+

Yes. Retainers are essential for maintaining your results. We provide custom retainers and explain exactly how often to wear them.

How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?+

Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners, while traditional braces use fixed brackets and wires. Clear aligners are discreet and removable; traditional braces may be more effective for severe cases.

Can teenagers have Invisalign treatment?+

Yes. Invisalign offers options designed for teenagers, including compliance indicators and replacement aligners.

Will Invisalign treatment affect my speech?+

Some patients notice a slight temporary lisp. It usually resolves within a few days as your tongue adjusts to the aligners.
